The Application and History of Bulletproof Shield

  • Ballistic shields , sometimes known as a tactical shield or bulletproof shield is an safety tool used by paramilitaries, police forces and other armed forces. They are intended to deflect or stop projectiles, including bullets, directed at their target. They also shield against lesser-threatening threats like throwable objects. Ballistic shields are comparable as the riot shields however they provide greater security and are usually utilized by special units or in instances in which riot shields do not provide sufficient protection.

  • Overview

    Shields that are small enough to be carried by just one person can be described as "personal shields", and are often carried inside police cars throughout the United States as standard equipment. If the use of a shield depends on the policies and the particular circumstances. It is the norm of a police organization to utilize shields only for defensive purposes like establishing an area of protection and waiting for reinforcements, whereas other forces may allow their use in dangerous situations, like high-risk stop-and-go traffic or when approaching the suspect who is considered to be a risk.

    Some of the most important characteristics of ballistic shields designed to policemen include carry system that can be carried for long periods of time without fatigue. It also has the capability to load a gun when holding the shield in place and also shoot it with just one hand. The carrying of an armoury in one hand limits the kinds of firearms that can be fired on the other hand, and also certain techniques for shooting.

  • Choweyarmor also has many different specifications of bulletproof shield and supports customized sizes:

  • Single-curved lightweight Sintered silicon carbide (SIC) ceramic plate for bulletproof plate
    Easier long gun deployment–standing, kneeling, prone position
    • Ambidextrous design with stationary handle ensures allows right or left handed operators to comfortable use the same shield
    • Padding beneath handle reduces abrasion and improves comfort
    • Advanced UDPE minimize ballistic penetration and disperses energy without increasing weight

  • New design Alumina and Aramid Composite Bulletproof Combination Wheel bulletproof shield Specification
    Shield size: 840mm*470mm thickness less than or equal to 24mm;
    Weight: ≤165kg, the effective protection area is about 3㎡
    Can effectively prevent the penetration of 5.8mm ordinary bullets (steel core) of the 95-type automatic rifle Shooting distance: 10m
    Test standard: GA423-2015
    Tactical lighting: GREE lamp beads, brightness ≥ 500 lumens, three-speed adjustment of strong light, low light, and flash

    The new unique shape gives better peripheral vision as well.

  • Composition
    Ballistic shields are similar to body armor plates in their construction, and are typically made out of fibre-reinforced plastic composites derived from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene or aramid. They may, like ceramic armor, incorporate a ceramic layer on their outer surface to enable them to defeat steel-core armor-piercing bullets. They can also have characteristics like bulletproof glass windows as well as ambidextrous handles and lighting fixtures for night use or at night. They can be carried by hand or mounted on wheeled frames. They differ in size, with some specifically made to protect just the upper torso while others are specifically designed to protect the entire body. In contrast to a body armor vest projectsiles stopped by a ballistic shield do not cause pain or trauma to the person who is wearing it, since they are not designed to be directly in contact with the body.
